Italian Alps Yoga Retreat

After a 2 year run of our retreat in the French Alps, the year 2020 is seeing us head to ITALY. Oh yes, Italy. The land of all the pasta!!!

Being in the mountains is an amazing experience - all that crisp fresh air, travelling all day with your body, relaxing in the evenings with gorgeous hearty food, and simply taking some time off in these breathtaking surroundings.

Breuil-Cervinia is an Alpine resort in the Valle d’Aosta region of northwest Italy. It’s known for its snow-capped mountains, including the pyramid-shaped Matterhorn. A network of slopes connects Breuil-Cervinia to Swiss resorts like Zermatt, and to the Plateau Rosà and Ventina glaciers. 

The Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche Zermatt area is one of the largest in the Alps, with a varied “domaine skiable” beyond compare, which stretches through three valleys in two countries, Italy and Switzerland, from the 3,883 m of the Piccolo Cervino descending to the 1,524 m of Valtournenche. Ski runs offering the chance to ski all day without ever repeating the same run twice, alternating easier runs with those of increasing difficulty.

Expect to be delving into a considered and tailored yoga week in our own private and extremely spacious yoga studio with breathtaking views around us. A total of 72 runs await you in Breuil-Cervinia-Valtournenche AND 78 more runs in linked and neighbouring Zermatt. Come back to the chalet to the outdoor hot tub, sauna or just relax and read in our tranquil yoga space. Start the days with a yoga session to invigorate and prepare yourselves for the slopes and ease into a relaxing evening session before your evening meal. (Hellooo Italian food!)

 

TEACHERS

Your teachers will be Charlene Lim and Jessica Fellows from Trika Yoga; both of who have a strong connection with and love for the mountains and snow. Charlene's morning wake up warm up classes will be fun, strong, dynamic yet soft and kind with the body and finding meditation through breath and movement. Jess leads the evening classes and  brings her Hatha and Restorative dynamic to the retreat. Wind down in the evenings with her relaxing, body melting sequences in a beautiful space surrounded by the snow and mountains.

 

our accomodation

Our accommodation is just four kilometres from Cervinia, around just a few bends, but in fact it feels light years away. All around, larch forests, and meadows covered in snow. Opposite, there is an ancient Valtournenche settlement consisting of five houses in timber and stone. More like a family home, this boutique chalet hotel has the warmth of a cosy B&B and the authenticity of a mountain chalet. Smells of mountains and timber, sounds of crackling wood in the fireplaces, this is truly a place to relax and be surrounded by nature.

We share this boutique chalet hotel with other guests, but have private use of our own extensive yoga room that has views out to the wonderful snowy landscape around us. The yoga room has a capacity of 40 people so we have all the space we need to use it for yoga, a space to rest, and relax.

And speaking of that, we will have use of the amazing spa. Rest after a days’ skiing in the Finnish wood-burning sauna, whirlpool hot tub overlooking Mount Cervino, get warm and steamed up in the Turkish hammam or for those that enjoy some cryotherapy, spruce up in the ice bath tub!

 

THE food

The menu for the week runs by these importances:
• A short; very short supply chain, with ingredients selected from local produce made by small-scale farmers
• Total respect of seasonal availability of ingredients
• Short cooking times, so that the nutritional characteristics and authentic flavours of all ingredients are retained and enhanced.

Every year, the food here wins praise in reviews published by authoritative culinary guides like Michelin, L’Espresso, Gambero Rosso, Veronelli. More importantly, it succeeds in delighting all those who search for places where taste and good taste are combined to perfection.

• 7.30am: Morning Yoga with Charlene
• 8.40am: Breakfast
• 9.30 - 10am: Shuttle up to the pistes
S K I   &   B O A R D   T I M E !
• 4 - 4.30pm: Shuttle back to chalet
• 4.30 - 5.30pm: Hot tub & Sauna time
• 5.45pm: Evening Yoga with Jess
• 715pm: Evening meal

Saturday
• D E P A R T U R E   D A Y
• 8am: Breakfast
• You can ski / board today too with bags left in the chalet if your departure time is later in the day

HOW TO GET HERE

Plane
The most convenient airport for Cervinia is Turin Caselle, and many airlines including EasyJet, BA and RyanAir fly there.  Milan Malpensa and Geneva airports are both alternative arrival points with many flight options, though transfers from these airports to Cervinia take a little longer.

Turin - 120 km, 1hr 40 minutes
Milan Malpensa - 190 km, 2hrs 20 minutes
Geneva - 210km, 2hrs 45 minutes

Rail
There is a train station in Chatillon Saint Vincent, at the bottom of the Valtournenche valley, and regular bus connections from Chatillon to Valtournenche and Cervinia. See the Italian train website www.trenItalia.com for rail travel options and timetables:

SKI / BOARD HIRE

You can either bring your own board or skis or hire your equipment for the week.

NEW TO YOGA / SKIING?

Don't worry, having 2 yoga teachers present in all classes means that you will get the attention you need. Either Charlene or Jess will be on hand to assist, so you can expect lots of help if needed!

Equally, do not be worried if you have never been on the snow before! We can organise lessons for you. Simply let us know if you would like this arranged for you.
